‘ROTTO’

This project started during a conversation with a local in Florence about the floods that took place there over the course of history. He talked about one of these resulting in two deaths, because of a damaged building collapsing after not being fixed by authorities. The problem with the Italian mentality, according to him, is that they ‘don’t fix things until they’re broken’. This series shows that this mentality not only refers to objects, but to traditions and habits as well. It displays a people upholding their way of life and questions the meaning of something being broken, hence the title, which translates to the Italian word for ‘broken’ or ‘not working’.
